A LAST GOOD-BYE

Do not lament for me, my friends behind,
...for was not death I feared, or growing old,
was life unlived,
and skies untold.

Do not lament for me, my friends behind,
...for its earth bound man, who can not share,
the loves, the life
we pilots dare.

Good-bye my friends, remember well,
...for in shadowed memory you'll find me still,
a glimpse, a thought, a fleeting trace,
just a moment there,
in misty morning's daylight race.

Good-bye my friends, remember well,
...from crimson red to crystal blue,
a faint line image close by wing,
break right, break left,
its of my life this song I sing.

Do not lament for me, my friends behind,
... for my soul is free, to soar the meadows,
mountain valleys, white canyons' setting sun.
On silvered wings we shall fly,
forever joined in flight as one.

A last good-bye, my friends behind,
...for I shall walk a new flight line.
