SAMUEL CAMPBELL
"Samuel Campbells name appears on records of Oneida Historical Society 1881-4 (a copy of which is in the New York State Library) as a Lieutenant Colonel at Battle of Oriskany. Extract from tribute to memory of Colonel Campbell by the late James A. Morse: In the year 1784 when General Washington and Governor Clinton were in their explor-tour through New York State, they spent a night with Colonel Campbell and both took occasion to express their thanks for the zeal he had manifested in the cause of his country. Since the close of the Revolution, Colonel Campbell has been a member of the State Legislature and always rigidly adhered to the principles of Republicanism which he embraced at the commencement of our struggle for independence.
