![]() Connecticut Patriots SAMUEL ADAMSBorn 16 May 1753 - Died 23 Nov 1827 Samuel Adams was living in Canterbury, Connecticut, in 1776 when he enlisted in the 20th Continental with Captain Thomas Grosvenor and Colonel Durkee. He re-enlisted on 30 April 1776 serving until 12 June 1783. He held the rank of 2nd Corporal under Captain Epaphias Bull and was a member of Colonel Elisha Sheldon's "Light Dragoons." He engaged in the battle of Trenton and Yorktown. He was discharged 1 April 1782. SAMUEL BEAUMONT
Samuel Beaumont, fifth generation New Englander, whose ancestors had arrived in Boston before 1640, clearly knew his allegiance as a Patriot in April, 1776. At the age of eighteen, he enlisted at Saybrook, Middlesex County, CT, his home town, as a private in Colonel Selden's regiment. He fought under General Washington at Harlem Heights, September, 1776, and at White Plains, October, 1776. He also fought at Flat Bush, Turtle Bay and Elizabethtown Point. In February, 1778, Samuel Beaumont was appointed corporal, Third Connecticut, in Colonel Samuel B. Webb's regiment. And, in August, 1778, he fought under General John Sullivan at Newport. In June, 1780, Samuel Beaumont was appointed sergeant, Third Connecticut, in Colonel Samuel B. Webb's regiment again. He was discharged from the Continental forces in February, 1781, at the age of twenty-three. WAKEMAN BURRBorn 3 Oct 1743 - Died 9 May 1799 Wakeman Burr, Fairfield, Connecticut, served as an Ensign in the Lexington Alarms in April, 1775. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant from 1 May to 12 December 1775 in the 5th Connecticut Regiment, 4th Company, Colonel Waterbury's Northern Department 1775. He served as a 1st Lieutenant, 1st Company, in the New York campaign in 1776 under Colonel Silliman Wadsworth Brigade. NEWBURY BUTTONBorn 25 Mar 1766 - Died 18 Dec 1843 At an early age, and too young to fight, Newbury Button served his country by playing the fife and serving as a messenger. He was born in Stonington, Connecticut, and died in North Haven, Connecticut. SHADRACH HUBBELLBorn 1738-39 - Died 18 Sept 1816 Shadrach Hubbell resided in Fairfield County, Connecticut. JESSE MOREHOUSEBorn 7 Sept 1750-51 Died 11 Apr 1827 JESSE WALDOBorn 6 Sept 1736 - Died 28 Feb 1823 ELIJAH WALTERSBorn 27 Jul 1757 - Died 10 Nov 1836 Elijah Walters, residing in Goshen, Connecticut, served as a private in Captain Giles Pettybones' Company of Connecticut State Troops in March, 1777. He also served under Captain Isaac Holt. Pension records indicate that he served less than six months, therefore was eligible for no pension. |
